Ask HN: Any Pixel 4a owners who opted for a new phone discount received it yet?
My Pixel 4a was working great—then I got that forced update that ruined it.
I filled out the form and opted to take Google up on their offer of a $100 voucher for a new Pixel phone. I wasn't especially happy about it because I usually buy used phones and haven't bought a brand-new one since the Nexus One, but I figured, okay, well, they fucked me with this update, might as well make the best of it.
Then at the end of the form it said here's your case number, we'll get back to you in up to three weeks.
Like fuck off dude, I already gave you my IMEI number. My phone doesn't hold a charge for shit anymore—and half the time, it charges without the battery indicator changing, it just gets stuck where it was, and then only starts ticking down sometime later after I've unplugged it.
Every few days, someone at Google apparently opens my case file, does jack shit with it, and then closes it again, such that I can see that someone did something with it... but it wasn't giving me my promised $100 voucher, such that I can have the privilege of spending $500 minimum on a new phone, to replace the one I'm currently typing this on that worked just fine before the forced update, but now has gone from 32% to 8% since I started typing this.
I complained about it on X and a Google support account DMed me for my case ID and promised they'd get my case “escalated”—to no apparent avail.
Anyway, is it just me who's having bad luck here? Has anyone else gotten their $100 voucher from Google?
I took the $50 cash and it hit my bank yesterday.
Did you fill the form out immediately or wait awhile? I made the mistake of waiting a week to see how bad it'd get.
