Ask HN: Who Is Working to Combat AI-Powered Fraud?

3 points by neonnoodle 4 hours ago

There has been a recent explosion in AI-aided scams and fraud. Deepfakes (both video and voice), web scraping, and automated document generation have allowed scammers to target victims with more precision and believability than was ever possible before AI.

All of this has always been possible to some degree, but "quantity has a quality all its own" continues to ring true.

Public education ("scam awareness") is obviously the most decisive strategy, but is generally left to the underfunded public sector or the PR departments of banks, etc.

As for AI-industry regulation, I'm not holding my breath. And besides, with open-source models there will always be products available to bad actors.

So is anyone working on anything in the public interest? Any bright ideas?
